EKSTRAK DAUN PEPAYA (Carica papaya) SEBAGAI INHIBITOR KOROSI BAJA St.37 DALAM MEDIUM ASAM SULFAT

Abstract: Extract of  pepaya  (Carica papaya) leaves  as corrosion inhibitor for steel St. 37 in sulphuric acid is investigated. The methods employed for study were the weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization and photooptic analysis. The weight loss determination showed that the corrosion rate decreased by additionof  extract of Carica papaya leaves. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing temperature. Maximum inhibition efficiency (96,22%) is reached 1,5 N sulphuric acid by addition of NaCl 0,2 N and concentration of extract 1,5%. Potentiodynamic polarization curve indicated that Carica papaya leaves extract behave as the mixed type inhibitor. The activation energy (Ea) increase with addition of concentration Carica papaya leaves extract that is 76,646 kJ/mol to 120,608 kJ/mol. Fotooptic analysis showed that morphology of specimentsurface in solution without inhibitor and Carica papaya leaves extract 1,5% was different.
