PENENTUAN KONDISI OPTIMUM AKTIFITAS KATALITIK Fe(II)-ASETONITRIL YANG DIAMOBILISASI PADA SILIKA MODIFIKASI DALAM REAKSI TRANSESTERIFIKASI
Abstract: Catalytic process,
especially in heterogeneous phase, is a very important phenomenon in modern
industries. The use of heterogen catalyst or solid catalyst has been widely
used in chemical conversion, fuel, and pollutan removal. This work was carried
out to determine the optimum condition for catalytic activity of
Fe(II)-acetonitril catalyst immobilized on silica modification by several
parameters including catalyst concentration, stirring rate, and reaction time
in transesterification reaction of frying oil.
Characterization of modified silica and immobilized catalyst have been
examined by Fourier Transformation Infra Red ( FTIR), Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometry (AAS), and Nano Lazer Particle Size Analyzer (NL-PSA). To
measure the formation of methyl ester (biodiesel), Gas Chromatography-Mass
Spectrometry (GC-MS) was used. NL-PSA
analysis showed that the size of grafted catalyst particles were smaller than
that of modified and parent silica as well. The optimum condition of the
grafted catalyst in such reaction were 0,5 weigth % of the catalyst, stirring
rate 200 rpm and reaction time 120 minutes.
