Estimasi Potensi dan Pemetaan Daerah Potensial Penangkapan Ikan Pelagis di Perairan Selayar dengan Menggunakan Citra Satelit Aqua/Modis
Abstract: The objectives of
this study are to estimate the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and to map potential
pelagic fishing grounds in Selayar Waters. Firstly, the Maximum Sustainable
Yield (MSY) was estimated using Surplus Production Model and then calculated
the TAC for both skipjack and scads. To generate this model, this study used 10
years time series (1995-2004) which consisted of catch and fishing effort data.
Second, satellite images of sea surface temperature derived from MODIS were
used to map out potential predicted area for each species based on their
preferred sea surface temperature ranges for the period of June-September
2006. Results showed that the
exploitation rates for skipjack and scads were 15.39% and 49.7% of the TAC,
respectively. The Potential fishing grounds for the species well formed in
June, and mostly occurred near Selayar main Island and Takaborate coastal
waters. These results were highly consistent with the empirical data. As a result, the pelagic resources should be
optimally exploited at the TAC level by utilizing potential predicted area
defined by preferred sea surface temperature. These findings suggested that the
potential fishing ground map could be easily produced by satellite imagery and
should be important information to the fishermen.
