Baking Time Hydrogen Embrittement pada Material Batang Baja Karbon Rendah
Abstract: Effect of baking
time on hydrogen embrittlement of low carbon steel material has been studied in
this experimentl. One of the purposes of wlwctrogalvanizing in steel is to
improve corrosion resistance. Unfortunately, electrogalvanizing can cause
hydrogen atoms diffuse into steel, which result hydrogen embrittlement. The
embrittlement of materials tends to cause failure or delayed brittle failure.
Materials used in this research are low carbon steel as an exhaust pipe hanger
in automotive component. To reduce hydrogen diffused into the low carbon steel
aftel electrogalvanizing the materials were baked at temperature 200 ºC at
various time, i.e. 15,48 and 65 hours. Metallographic examination was carries
out using optical microscope and mechanical properties measurements included
hardness, tensile and fatigue test. The result of microstructure examination
show that the baking temperature at 200 ºC does not change the microstructure
but it increases the toughness of the materials. The lengthening of baking time
decrease the hardness which is expected because of the decreasing of hydrogen
content in the materials as a result of diffusion process during the baking.
