Pengaruh Pelapisan Crhom Terhadap Kehausan Piston Ring Motor Honda Dengan Metoda Aktifasi Lapisan Tipis (Alt)

Abstract: This research aims to investigate the effect of chrome layer on ring piston of super cup 700 honda with thin layer activation method (TLA). Piston ring chromed with pack cementation technique for one hour and 15 minutes in 1050° C in temperature. The hardness of piston ring and block cylinder was tested with micro vickers. Then, the piston ris was activated using proton bundle resulted from cyclotron in 1 MA for 20 minutes. The piston ring was installed on super cup 700 honda and operated for 60 hours, then the wearing out was observed by measuring the erosion activity of the piston ring carried by the engine lubricating oil. The measurement of the erosion activity uses MCA of genie 2000 VDM software. The result of the erosion testing is presented in erosion graph with operation time and show that the chromed piston ring has 4,6 ยต m in erosion. Thus, the chrome treatment can slow down the erosion of 63,5%.
