HUBUNGAN PERAN IBU DENGAN TINGKAT SIBLING RIVALRYPADA ANAK PRASEKOLAH USIA 3-5 TAHUN DI WILAYAH KELURAHAN KETAWANGGEDE MALANG

Abstract:  Sibling  rivalry  is  an  attitude  of  being  antagonistic  and  jealous  toward  one’s biological sibling. This kind of attitude can attach to 3-5 year old preschool children easily since a preschool period is a critical period when children start to develop their emotion. This  jealousy  occurs  for the  sake of  getting  more  attention  from  the mother.  Out  of  that context, the purpose of this research is to get some information on the relationship between the mother’s role and the level of sibling rivalry on the 3-5 year old preschool children. Moreover,  the  research  design  is  a  descriptive  analytic  correlation  with  cross  sectional approach. The data collection was done by using a purposive sampling with  57 people as the sample. In addition, questionnaire that has been checked its validity and reliability was used  as  the  research  instrument.  Then,  the  data  are  analyzed  by  using  spearman  rho correlation.  The  result  shows  that  most  of  mothers  (43.9%)  in  Ketawanggede  region Malang are in a category of fair in doing their role as mothers and their children’s sibling rivalry level  is moderate (43.9%).  Moreover, the test result of  spearman rho  correlation (r=0.289  with  p=0.03)  shows  that  there  is  an  existence  of  mother’s  role  with  as  sibling rivalry level of 3-5 year old preschool children. Based on the result of the research, it is suggested that health officer should be able give counseling on how mothers do their role as  a  mother  in  public  health  service.  If  counseling  is  well  given,  it is  hoped  that  those mothers  are  able  to  do  their  role  perfectly  so  that  the  level  of  sibling  rivalry  can  be minimized.
