ABSTRACT: At Kristen Mojowarno
Hospital (KMH), a preliminary survey was held to validate data based on
patient’s complaints on billing error (5% staff made calculation error) and the
time consuming of transaction processing systems (>100 minutes above
expectation). The purpose of this research is to formulate recommendations for
the transaction processing systems
at KMH by
improving inpatient’s transaction
process through system
approach and analysis.
This is an observational research carried out
cross-sectional. The sample was taken from the inpatient unit, supporting unit,
and finance department; while sample from staff was a total sampling. These
samples were divided to two clusters i.e. 74 staff and 127 transaction forms.
Variables to be analyzed were human resources, policies, inpatient’s
transaction form, communication pathway, system activities consisted of input
and process. Analysis was done descriptively presented in frequency
distribution tables. The research results showed: 1) 46% of inpatient staff was
new recruits; time awareness and
how-to-process transaction was
limited; staff attitude
and motivation was
lacking: 2) 86.5%
of staff had
never attended any socialization; no policies on transaction processing
system; no Standard Operating Procedures; 3) the tariff book was incomplete,
some items were irrelevant, and no standard transaction forms; 4) there was a
repetition in pharmaceutical pathway; 5) input from transaction data was 3.9%
incomplete; 6) transaction data collecting and recording was not appropriate,
40% took a longer time (more than 60 minutes) due to long-awaited pharmacy
bills (90%).
