PENGARUH KONSENTRASI NaOH, TEMPERATUR PEMASAKAN, DAN LAMA PEMASAKAN PADA PEMBUATAN PULP DARI BATANG RAMI DENGAN PROSES SODA
Abstract: Research has been
conducted to study the effect of NaOH concentration, cooking temperature and
cooking time on the production of pulp from Rami stalk using soda process. The
use of Rami as raw material under study was because availability of wood as raw
material for pulp is getting lesser by time, whilst Rami stalk may be a good
substitute for it. Large stock of NaOH available in the market is the cause of
the use of this chemical for the study. The range of variables studied were :
NaOH concentrations at 5-15%, cooking temperatures of 100-120oC, and cooking
time of 60-180 minutes. Analyses of the product was done for percent yield of
the pulp produced, concentration of cellulose in the pulp, and lignin content
in the pulp. Results show that in the range of values studied, the three
variables, NaOH concentration, temperature of cooking and cooking time, did not
give any significant effect on the amount of pulp produced and the
concentration of cellulose in the pulp, whilst they give proportional effect on
the lignin content in the pulp. Best condition with smallest lignin
concentration of 6.83%, was found at NaOH concentrations of 5%, cooking
temperature of 105oC, and cooking time
of 60 minutes.
