Sintesa Fatty Acid Alkyl Ester dari Minyak Limbah Ikan Patin dengan Isooktanol

Abstract: Transesterification is a reaction between oil (tryglecerida) and alcohol, creatingfatty acid alkyl ester. Plastisizer is one of the commercial product of fatty acid alkylester. Plasticizers from bio-oil production still very limited, it is necessary to devel-op a bio-oil-based plasticizers. In this research, the synthesis of plasticizers bytransesterification reaction using an activated natural zeolite catalysts to H-zeolite,with variations of stirring speed (175, 200 and 225 rpm), H-zeolite catalyst compo-sition (10%, 15% and 20%) by weight based waste oil catfish and the molar ratio ofreactants (1:6, 1:9, and 1:12) , with a fixed variable is 104-106 o C reaction tempera-ture, reaction time 6 h and. Transesterification of the test results showed that themolar ratio, H-zeolite catalyst composition and stirring speed affects rate of thereaction to reach equilibrium. The best operating conditions obtained in this studyis the molar ratio of 1: 9, stirring speed 225 rpm, 20% catalyst composition andreaction time 6 hours reaction resulting in a conversion of 29.7%. Characteristics ofplasticizer produced in this study meet the standard of commercial plasticizers, with 5,380 mPa s viscosity values, specific gravity (30 o C) and 0.860 saponificationnumber is 132.401 mg KOH/gr Sample.
