PENAMBAHAN TANIN PADA PEREKAT UREA FORMALDEHIDA UNTUK MENURUNKAN EMISI FORMALDEHIDA PAPAN PARTIKEL

Abstract: Urea formaldehyde is a type of adhesive that most popular used in the manufacture of particle board and other panel products. The presence of formaldehyde emissions causing pollution in the air and caused of health problems. Adhesive modification is indispensible reduce formaldehyde emissions by adding tannin in urea formaldehyde adhesive. This research uses experimental methods random design complete (RDC) consist of 4 treatmens and 3 replications. Tannin consentrations were of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%. Respectively formaldehyde emissions testing performed by the method desiccators 24 hours with the standard Japanese (JIS A 5908-2003). The results indicated that the tannin of urea formaldehyde adhesive can lower emissions significantly, but cant reduce the level of emissions standard from F** to be F*** with emission standard value of ? 0,5 mg/L. to fulfill standard required by JIS at level F*** can be noted that using of better adhesive and tannin should have the similar of solid contents.
