AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK METANOL BUAH MUNDU MATANG (GARCINIA DULCIS [ROXB.] KURZ) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BACILLUS CEREUS DAN SHIGELLA FLEXNERI
ABSTRACT: Bacillus cereus and
Shigella flexneri is a pathogenic bacterium that can cause infections and
digestive disorders. One of the herbs which can be used as an antibacterial is
mundu (Garcinia dulcis). This research aimed to determine the antibacterial
activity of G. dulcis fruit methanol extract on the growth of B. cereus and S.
flexneri. This research was conducted from January to April 2016. The
qualitative phytochemical tests showed that G. dulcis fruit methanol extract
contained some secondary metabolites compounds such as flavonoids, quinones,
saponins, steroids and tannins that had potential as an antibacterial. The
testing of antibacterial activity has been performed using paper disk diffusion
method with some extract concentrations of 0,5; 1; 1,5; 2 and 2,5 g/ml and a
positive control of antibiotic chloramphenicol 0,025 g/ml. The test results
showed that the antibacterial activity from all the tested extracts
concentration level could equally strongly inhibit the growth of B. cereus and
S. flexneri. The activity of 2,5 g/ml extract concentration againts B. cereus
and S. flexneri bacteria demonstrated the highest inhibition zone diameter,
which was 15,88 mm and 14,80 mm, while the optimum growth inhibition of B.
cereus and S. flexneri bacteria was achieved at a concentration of 0.5 g/ml.
