APLIKASI SENSOR OPTIK INTERFEROMETER MACH-ZEHNDER UNTUK DETEKSI KANDUNGAN GLATIN BABI PADA MAKANAN

Abstract: This paper reported a design of optical sensor to detect hog’s gelatin by using coupler and opticalinterferometer. This device have been fabricated by attaching a ring resonator on one of arm of MachzehnderInterferometer (MZI), therefore other arm was utilized as the reference waveguide signal. Theexperimental set up was conducted by launching 1 mW Diode Laser in to input terminal, and the outputsignals at two terminals was detected by optical power meter. Wave propagating equations have beendetermined based on coupling mode theory using a transfer matrix method. These equations were thenused to determine the fabrication parameter such as coupling coefficient, coupling ratio, and sensorsensitivity. By applying various sample (hog-oil, ice cream magnum, cadburry chocolate and a set gravy)on the ring resonator waveguide as sensing area yielded various optical characteristic for each samples.Experimental results has shown that there was a similarity between hog-oil and cadburry chocolateoptical birefringence with the hog’s gelatin characteristic. This results informed the important informationfor muslim consumer that cadburry chocolate is categorized as a haram food as explained in quran (QS.Al Maidah: 3)
