THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ACTIVE SMOKER PERCEPTION ABOUT PASSIVE SMOKER WITH MOTIVATION TO QUIT SMOKING IN BRAJAN KASIHAN BANTUL YOGYAKARTA
ABSTRACT: One of the largest
cause of death in the world is cigarettes. Smoke is one of the addictive
substances.Smoking could increase the risk the heart disease, increase
cholesterol levels in the blood, blood pressure and diabetes. The purpose of
this study was to find relationship between active smokers perception about
passive smokers with the motivation to quit smoking among adults in Brajan
Kasihan Bantul Yogyakarta. The research was quantitative research with
crossectional approach the population all of active smoker in Brajan. The
sample in this study was 68 active smoker who aged more than 21 years old and
obtained by total sampling. Chi square test was used to analyse the data. The
results of the study found that respondents who had a good perception and had
high motivation to quit smoking was 31 respondents (45,6%), while the
respondents who had a not good perception, and had low motivation to quit
smoking was 17 respondents (25%). Based on chi-square analysis, there was a
significant relationship between active
smokers perception about passive smokers with motivation to quit smoking in
adults in Brajan Kasihan Bantul Yogyakarta. Therefore it is important for health worker to improve
the motivation to quit smoking by increasing a good perception about active
smokers.
